USE YOUR PAPER 2; WHALE-come Baby Boy!

USE YOUR PAPER!

Carly had a baby shower for a coworker and we came up with this CUTE diaper cake.  They weren't going with any particular theme so we created our own.  Carly remembered that she purchased this nautical paper pack awhile back and never used it.  So out it came!
If you've ever made or seen a diaper cake before, you probably notice that most people use a receiving blanket or ribbon to wrap around the "cake" layers.  Nope...not us...not the paper crafters!  We used paper - each layer used at least 2 strips of 4x12 papers.  We also used paper to cut circles to top each layer (or as a base - however you want to look at it) and the rosettes in front.  We used six pieces of paper from this pad and no scraps!

First we were thinking very cutesy and baby-ish, but this paper is so luxurious and sophisticated, those cutesy die cuts were not going to match.  So, we used different colors and still came up with something ADORABLE!

Carly is so good with cute, punny titles/words.  I wanted "Ahoy, It's a Boy", but she came up with the "Whale-come Baby".  So clever!

We rolled one pack of #1 diapers and assembled the cake layers to use all of them.  We did have to use an empty toilet tissue roll for the center of them to keep them even.

I did all of the cutting, but Carly is the one who assembled the pieces and added the great final touches (netting, clothespins, buttons, doily).  She certainly has an eye for this.

Cricut Cartridges Used:
Create-a-Critter (whale, shells, starfish)
New Arrival (BABY blocks)
Plantin Schoolbook ("come")
Storybook (base for title)
Just Because ("whale")

Mini clothespins, buttons, twine, doily and netting from our stash.

(Sorry about the photos.  I wanted to take some without the plastic packaging, but we packaged it and then realized we hadn't taken any photos.  DUH!  And mom-to-be wanted to keep it wrapped up for easy travels.)
